Amp - Saint Cecilia Sinsemillia For the past five years and now over four studio albums, UK duo Amp have consistently made some of the most creative and experimental music to grace pop's canon. Radiohead are new to the cause, Eno the inspirational professor and Harvey a mere dabbler at its fringes. But if you're looking for true pioneers and masters of a medium that exists without deference to either commercial or careerist considerations, then Amp truly lead the resistance. Saint Cecilia Sinsemilla was recorded by Richard Walker (ex-Secret Garden, Distance) and French singer Karine Charff during their 1999 European tour and features additional recordings from their VPRO Radio 5 session in Holland. Previous albums were Stenorette, produced by Robert Hampson (Main, Loop), astralmoonbeamprojections released on Kranky, the Passe-Present singles compilation for the Enraptured label, and debut LP Sirenes. A recurring criticism levelled at electronic music is it lacks "life". Amp blow this tired attitude out of the water on an album that literally throbs with energy. Saint Cecilia Sinsemilla is the electronic made organic. |
